In that case, you can use some 3rd party programs that will allow you to format an external hard drive with the larger size. You can also use it to create partitions on an external hard drive and it formats faster than Windows. Oh well, while the cat's away, the birdies play. And 8 seconds or was it 10 to fix and return my external drive back to a FAT32. Sometimes I can plug in a FAT32 drive and it works right away. Since there's never anything wrong, I'd just like to be left in peace.

Simple solution is to use FAT32, no security, no problems.

Format in FAT32 using Verbatim SmartDisk FAT32 Utility There is a free utility called Verbatim FAT32 Tool which will allow you to convert your hard drive to FAT32 in seconds. Have not tried that yet, but the Mplayer sees the drive and plays the files!
